Monte Cavallo is Vipiteno's home mountain, which can be reached comfortably via a modern cable car directly from Vipiteno and which enjoys a unique panorama: from the Zillertal Alps to the Dolomites, from the Sarentine Alps to the Stubai Alps. The cable car will be open for the summer season from 25 May to 5 November.
The area offers excursions for all tastes. Try out the Dolomieu route, also known as the 6 huts route, which takes you from the Monte Cavallo mountain station along six characteristic huts to the valley floor of the Val di Fleres.
Right next to the Monte Cavallo mountain station near Sterzing is the Rossy Park: an open-air paradise with games and a mini zoo with alpacas, llamas, donkeys, ponies and rabbits that will delight the little ones. New this summer is the 'Rossy Walk' theme trail.
Not to be missed is the thrilling ride on the Panorama Mountain Coaster, the 1,300-metre-long summer toboggan run for the whole family with a drop of almost 300 metres to the valley station of the lift. This attraction is open from the end of June to the beginning of October.
A wishing bell and a swing can also be found on the summit of Monte Cavallo.
In summer, a sunrise hike with breakfast is organised on Monte Cavallo in Sterzing! Every Wednesday from 26 July to 30 August, early risers can take the cable car from Sterzing to Monte Cavallo (1,860 m) and climb the last 350 metres up to the 'Köpfl' together with a hiking guide to admire the sunrise over the Zillertal Alps and the Dolomites. For organisational reasons, registration for the sunrise hikes is compulsory by the day before at the Sterzing Tourist Office.
