The Christmas Market in the old mining city of Vipiteno is really something else. The streets of the old town - one of the most beautiful in Italy, with many artistic and cultural treasures from the Middle Ages - are filled with lights and colors, creating a fairy-tale Christmas atmosphere. The imposing tower Torre delle Dodici, overlooking the main square, is the stunning background to this unique market and to the Nativity scene, whose figures are entirely handmade.
Enjoy the charm of the city and discover the tradition of this Market. Admire the palaces and the firs, symbols of life and peace, decorated with fruits, cakes and wooden decorations.
The stands await you with handmade creations, and with local food, such as bread, speck, mulled wine or warm apple juice.
Christmas carillion in Sterzing
Recently, a carillon with 25 bells made by the Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck was installed on the” Zwölferturm” tower, which dominates over the whole town of Vipiteno.
Freelance musician and composer Josef Haller from Sterzing has composed a piece - with orchestra accompaniment - for the carillon. The premiere took place in December 2020. Josef Haller sat at the piano and played the music box creating a special and almost magical atmosphere.
This show will be repeated in the Advent period every Saturday at 5 pm and on Sundays at 12 pm with Josef Haller and the musicians of Sterzing. On working days the carillon will automatically play at 5 pm.
