During the weekend, Val Sarentino comes alive with spectacular parades of floats, performances by folk groups, horse fanfares, band concerts and an atmospheric torchlight procession. The village streets are filled with stalls and food stands, offering local specialities.
The inhabitants proudly flaunt their traditional costume: the men wear ‘Loden’ trousers with the typical ‘Kraxn’, the ‘Fatsch’ belt decorated with peacock thread embroidery and the ‘Sarnar Huet’ hat, with a green ribbon for married men and red for bachelors. Women wear a long black skirt, a flowery apron and the characteristic ‘Bänderhuet’ with silk ribbons.
The stars of the festival are also the Haflinger horses, the symbol of the valley, which are rewarded on Friday and proudly displayed during the folkloric procession on Sunday afternoon. Monday concludes with the traditional livestock market, a not-to-be-missed event for breeders and enthusiasts.
