This winter, a unique opportunity awaits lovers of Christmas markets, characteristic villages, charming castles and handcrafted nativity scenes: the Christmas Train. This special train will depart from Trento, giving travellers an immersive experience in the magical Christmas atmosphere of the Alpine valleys of Trentino, with stops in Val di Non and Val di Sole. A perfect trip for families and others, designed to fully experience the magic of the holidays.
The Christmas Train: a journey among castles and enchanted landscapes
The Christmas Train is the winter edition of the famous Trentino Castles Train, which in summer explores four of the most beautiful castles in the region. Active for the first time also in winter, this train is ready to win the hearts of all visitors. Accompanied by expert guides, participants will travel through breathtaking Alpine landscapes, discovering the stories and artistic and architectural details of the castles in Val di Non and Val di Sole.
Stages of the Christmas Train
Ossana and the Castle of San Michele
The first stop of the Christmas Train is in Mezzana, in Val di Sole. From here, travellers will continue by bus to the village of Ossana, one of the most beautiful in Italy, where they will be able to admire no less than 1,600 handcrafted nativity scenes displayed along the streets and in the ancient dwellings. Next, they will visit the Castle of San Michele, famous for its 25-metre donjon, which dates back to the Longobard era.
Castel Valer, Val di Non
Situated near Tassullo, Castel Valer is an elegant residence, surrounded by apple orchards and recognisable by its high polygonal tower, the tallest in the province of Trento. Normally closed to the public, this castle opens exceptionally for the Christmas Train thanks to the owner's availability, offering an exclusive visit.
Trento: Christmas Market and Buonconsiglio Castle
The final stop on the journey is in Trento, home to one of the oldest Christmas markets in Italy. Between Piazza Fiera and Piazza Mostra, with the backdrop of Buonconsiglio Castle, visitors can immerse themselves in lights and typical local flavours.

Expected return time: approx. 5.00 p.m. (to then continue on foot to the Trento Christmas Market)

8.10 a.m.: meeting of participants with tour guides and accompanying person at the Trento-Malè railway station
8.40 am: departure with the little train
10.20 am: arrival in Mezzana, transfer by bus to Ossana
10.30 am: entrance and guided tour of the Castle of San Michele and the Cribs of Ossana
12.00 p.m. departure from Ossana in the direction of Cles
12.45 p.m. arrival in Cles and lunch at Il Giardino restaurant
2.10/14.15 pm departure from the restaurant in the direction of Castel Valer
2.30 pm entrance and guided tour of Castel Valer
4.00/16.15 pm departure for Trento
4.45/17.00 pm arrival at Trento-Malè railway station; walk to Trento Christmas Market in Piazza Mostra for mulled wine tasting.
