Mulled wine / Vin Brulè recipe

How to prepare the traditional hot spiced wine - Mulled wine / Vin Brulè - to be enjoyed at Christmas time.

Proceedings

Rinse the oranges and lemon, then peel off the zest. Rinse the apple and cut it into thin slices.

Pour the red wine in a saucepan together with the cinnamon sticks, sugar, cloves, apple, zests and nutmeg. Mix, bring to the boil and cook for 5 minutes to dissolve the sugar.

Now you can either pour it into heatproof glasses and serve at once, or, if you want to burn out some more alcohol, you can light a flame near the surface of the wine until blue flames briefly appear and burn out. Off the heat and serve.

  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 250 g sugar
  • 10 cloves
  • 2 organic oranges
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 apple
  • a pinch of nutmeg
