Ski area Sappada
In winter Sappada, on the border line between the regions of Veneto and Friuli, is the land of kids, with a facility purposely tailored to meet their needs: Nevelandia, the biggest winter playground of Italy! Adults will have their fun too, and enjoy an exciting holiday practicing Alpine and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowboarding and ice climbing.
In Sappada children have at their disposal about 70,000 sq m to play and have fun. Nevelandia is a huge winter playground where they can play freely and practice the activities and sports they like best, like snow tubing, bobsleigh and sledding, and play with inflatable toys and carousels, on the moving sidewalk and on the inflatable Nevelandia Village. Moreover, children can practice Alpine skiing or ride quad bikes and snowmobiles, and they also have at their disposal a refreshment stand. The facilities are connected to the ski runs through a lovely mini train. To beginners, the ski school offers the aid and support of professional instructors.
While children play and have fun, their parents have at their disposal miles of slopes for Alpine skiing and snowboarding. On these same slopes train Filippo and Giacomo Kratter, international snowboarding champions. A strong point of the resort are the many easy ski runs, beautiful and well groomed, suitable for beginners and never crowded. The ski runs are distributed over two areas, Monte Sierra and Sappada 2000, connected though a shuttle service (bus or mini train, free for lift pass holders), and you can reach them easily on foot from the town center.
Sappada is loved by cross-country skiers, since this discipline is widely practiced here: Sappada in fact is the home town of two great Olympic champions, Silvio Fauner and Pietro Piller Cottrer, who still train on the trails of the resort. Moreover, international and World Cup competitions took place on the trails winding through the territory, and recently the resort has acquired a modern cross-country ski stadium, whereas the trails have been included in the Dolomiti NordicSki. The resort hosts also an international event for young skiers: the Ski for Fun.
More than skiing
There are many other sports and activities you can practice in Sappada, like ice skating on the three natural rinks distributed on different sites of the resort. You can hire snowmobiles, also for kids, and go for a tour through the forests, at dusk or under the moonlight if you like, accompanied by expert guides. If you are looking for something different, you can have fun with the sleds, tubes and bobsleighs, or practice ice climbing in the gorge of Acquatona and in the area stretching from Cima Sappada to Forni Avoltri, in the region of Friuli.
