Think of reliving the rural traditions of Trentino. Think of windmills coming to life, stables and open cellars. Think of a small village, surrounded by woods and countryside, where in autumn the scent of must mingles with that of freshly cut wood and in winter the snow silently covers the streets. Think of the houses, huddled close to each other, and, as in a nativity scene, everything seems to relive an atmosphere of yesteryear.
You are in Faedo, a small village of two hundred souls dominating the Piana Rotaliana, where every opportunity is good to discover and let people discover the culture of the area. Here, as the motto of the Pro Loco states, ‘tradition is at home’ and the Christmas period is certainly the best time to approach, slowly, this small reality.
At Christmas, Faedo - for the past nine years - has been presenting itself as ‘the town of the crib’ and it takes little to realise that this is indeed the case. Volunteers here have managed to create a unique installation with more than 80 life-size statues scattered along the village streets, in the stables, under the wraps, on the balconies of the houses.
Entering Faedo from 1 December to 5 January means entering the largest nativity scene in Trentino and discovering the traditions of the past: the baker, the blacksmith, various peasants intent on agricultural work and then the kitchen and the stable. Step by step you will find all the various characters until you arrive at a stable where a newborn child is sleeping in its mother's arms.
Only silence and the scent of hay are enough to describe the magic of Christmas in its elegant simplicity.
Star Market
Among the various scenes, you can find a craft market, the ‘Mercatinodella Stella’, located in the old stables and cellars, in an atmosphere to be discovered and enjoyed.
The market will be open on 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22 December from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Star Sing - 5 January
5 January 2025 | 5 p.m.
This unique experience culminates with the spectacular Singing of the Star, a traditional re-enactment with figures (shepherds, animals and Three Wise Men) singing Christmas carols from days gone by.
Christmas Cottages
1-7-8-14-15-21-22 December: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Two ‘Christmas Cottages’ are open on weekends, offering mulled wine, hot tea, strauben, sandwiches and Trentino dishes.
