San Candido, sport and family holidays

San Candido lies at 1.175 meters in the Sesto Dolomites Natural Park in the holiday region Three Peaks/3 Zinnen in the Dolomites, together with its hamlets: Versciaco, Prato Drava and Monte San Candido. Due to its charming valleys and to the opportunity to hike to the close Austria, the village is a very beloved tourist resort. 

In summer the majestic peaks surrounding San Candido are ideal for trekking, easy walks along the Drava river ad mountain bike tours. You can also play tennis and squash, or have fun in the well-equipped water park "Acquafun" and along the summer fun bob slope. In summer you can also take part to the most important local event: the Heugabel (farmer market) in which you can taste many typical products. 

In winter the slopes on Monte Baranci are a source of pleasure and fun for the whole family, with easy slopes, snow tubing and sledge slopes. Besides skiing you can ice skate, go for a romantic horse-drawn sledge tour or admire the wonderful masterpieces of the International snow sculpture festival (in January). 

The village was well-known since very ancient times. Nowadays you can admire some traces of its glorious past in the Romanesque church, in the Museum of the Collegiate church and in the old thermal baths, which were used since the Middle Ages. The parish church of St. Michele, the churches in the hamlets, the Burg cemetery, where many First-World-War soldiers are buried, the Dolomythos Museum about Dolomites are also worth a visit.
