Roncegno Terme: wellness holidays at the foot of the Lagorai
Roncegno rises in the Valsugana valley, at the foot of the Lagorai range. Renowned spa resort, it is a favourite destination for those who are looking for a holiday of relaxation, wellness and health thanks to the beneficial effects of its waters, rich in arsenic and iron, ideal to regenerate body and mind and to relieve stress. The mild climate, the beauties of nature surrounding it and the wonderful panoramic position make this resort even more attractive to the eyes of the tourist, that here can not only enjoy the beneficial effects of the thermal waters, but also practice outdoor sport activities and discover the charm of the surroundings.
Trekking lovers can walk among the characteristic rural buildings called masi, explore the chestnut forests or choose more challenging, but also very enchanting, routes among the wild uncontaminated nature of the Lagorai range. There is no lack of orienteering and mountain bike trails, like the cycle path along the Brenta stream, and just out of the town you find a tennis center and a golf course near a charming biotope. Only 15 km from Roncegno there is Arte Sella, international biennial exhibition of contemporary art where the artists exhibit their works outdoors, while the ski center Panarotta 2000 and the Caldonazzo Lake ensure an exciting active holiday to all the winter sports and water sports lovers.
If the natural landscape surrounding Roncegno doesn't lack in charm, the town center too has a lot to offer to its visitors. In the past the renowned and elegant Palace Hotel spa hosted famous names of the Central European aristocracy. Destroyed during the First World War, it was rebuilt in Liberty style and today it is surrounded by a large and wonderful park. The Church of the Saints Peter and Paul holds a precious altar piece by Francesco Guardi, while in the hamlet of Marter definitely worth a visit is the Casa degli Spaventapasseri, an exhibition of pictures and more than sixty scarecrows collected by Flavio Paganello during his journeys around the Province of Trentino. In Marter there is also the Tor Tonda, medieval fortress built to guard the ancient road along the Brenta stream.
