Besides a lively, upper class social life and perfect ski runs, the Queen of the Dolomites Cortina boasts also a natural environment rich of attractions. Among these, worth a mention, and of course a visit, are the lakes and tarns: there are really many of them, scattered on the whole territory. They are easy to reach, and usually a short and beautiful trail will lead you to your destination.

- Lake Sorapiss Located on the Sorapiss Mountain, the wonderfully colored waters of this lake are enclosed by naked rocks and a natural shore
- Glacial Lake Lagazuoi Located in the Armentarola, its waters reflect the images of Torre del Lago and of the Scotoni face

- Rudo Lakes These two expanses of water are located on Alpe di Rudo. Lake Rudo de Sora is quite marshy and lies near the Sennes Refuge. Lake Rudo di Sote lies near the Fodara Refuge

- Lake Bai de Dones and Lake Limides The first, located near the lower station of the chairlift Cinque Torri, hosts some interesting plant species and amphibians. The second, also located near Cinque Torri, is a glacial, seasonal lake with ice cold waters disappearing in summer
- Lake Federa, or Lago da Lago, is an appreciated summer and winter destination, surrounded by peace and silence. Near the lake rises the Croda da Lago Refuge. In summer, during the warmest hours the lake is suitable for swimming and bathing
- Lake Ghedina is on the road leading to the Falzarego Pass, 3 km away from Cortina. The lake can be reached by car
