Thanks to its central location between the southern Alps and the Po Valley, Trentino is easily accessible by car, train and plane. The various valleys and localities of Trentino are also well served by a local bus and train service, allowing you to visit the Trentino Dolomites.
Getting there by car and camper
Trentino is easily reached by the A22 Brenner motorway, which runs entirely from north to south. The A22 is connected to the south with the A1 Milan-Naples and the A4 Milan-Venice. The main motorway exits in Trentino are: Rovereto Sud - Garda lake to reach Rovereto and Vallagarina, Terme di Comano, the Garda lake area and Valli Giudicarie; Rovereto Nord for Rovereto and Alpe Cimbra; Trento Sud for Terme di Comano, Madonna di Campiglio and Pinzolo, Valsugana, Pinè and Valle di Cembra, Valli Giudicarie and San Martino di Castrozza following the Valsugana state road; Trento Nord for Andalo and the Paganella, Val di Sole and Val di Non. To reach Monte Bondone and the Valle dei Laghi you can exit either at Trento Nord or South; San Michele all'Adige-Mezzocorona, which allows you to reach the Val di Non, the Val di Sole, Andalo and the Paganella and the Pinè Plateau and the Valle di Cembra. Those wishing to reach Cavalese or Predazzo in Val di Fiemme, Moena and Canazei in Val di Fassa, or San Martino di Castrozza must exit at Ora-Egna.
For those travelling by camper van, Trentino has more than 140 stopover points and equipped areas.
Getting there by train
The main railway network is the Verona-Trento-Brenner-Munich route. The primary stations are Rovereto and Trento, close to the city centre. Two further complementary lines branch off from the latter: the Trento - Malè-Marilleva line, which crosses the Piana Rotoliana, Val di Non and Val di Sole, and the Trento-Primolano-Bassano del Grappa line, which links Trento with the provinces of Vicenza and Venice.
During the Christmas period, special trains are set up to visit the traditional Christmas markets.
In Folgarida and Marilleva you can also reach the ski slopes by train: in 12 minutes from the centre of Val di Sole you can reach the ski slopes of the Folgarida - Marilleva - Madonna di Campiglio area.
Getting there by plane
The nearest airports are Dolomiti in Bolzano (57 km) with flights to and from Rome, Valerio Catullo in Verona (90 km) with an aerobus service to the railway station every twenty minutes; Antonio Canova in Treviso (136 km); Gabriele d'Annunzio in Brescia (133 km); Marco Polo in Venice (163 km) connected to the Mestre railway station by bus service, where eight car rental companies also operate; Caravaggio in Bergamo-Orio al Serio (180 km); Linate (223 km) and Malpensa (265 km) in Milan.
Verona, Bergamo, Linate, Milan Malpensa, Treviso and Venice are linked to the main tourist resorts in Trentino by a transfer service operating on Saturdays and Sundays, from December to April.
Trento has a small airport, the G. Caproni, open to tourist traffic, advanced ultralight aircraft and air taxis, which can use the services offered on request.
Getting there by bus
For internal travel there is an extensive bus system. In Trento the services are provided by Trentino Trasporti Esercizio Spa, whose terminus is in Trento, 50 m from the station, and which offers, in addition to the normal urban and extra-urban lines, a tourist urban service in the winter months to all the ski centres in Trentino. Otherwise you can use the Fly Ski Shuttle, which connects the main airports in northern Italy with the most beautiful ski areas, or the FlixBus, which leaves from the Trento and Bolzano stations for the mountain resorts.
If you want to reach Madonna di Campiglio, you can use the FrecciaLink service of Trenitalia, the integrated Frecce + Bus service.
