In Sluderno, in a 16th century restored building, the Val Venosta Museum tries to convey the thousands-of-years-old history of everyday life in Val Venosta. The permanent exhibition Archaic Venosta gives the visitors insights into the everyday lives of pre-historic population, and of their agricultural, trade, arts and crafts and religious activities.
The thematically arranged exhibition shows in particular the sensational finds of "Ganglegg", a fortified mountain settlement of the Bronze and Iron Ages up to the Roman period. The settlement is about 45 minutes far from Sluderno.
The "Wasser-Wosser" exhibition is largely concerned with the traditional irrigation systems in the dry Val Venosta. All this is documented with models, machines and audio-visual methods that portray the everyday life of Val Venosta farmers from the Middle Ages up to the present.
Moreover at the Museum it is possible to get more detailed information about culture, trades and the irrigation systems and their manufacture.
The exhibition consider two other aspects which happened in the valley: the phenomenon of the "Karrner", i.e. the hawkers, and the one of the "Schwabenkindr", the children who had to emigrate to the South of Germany. Moreover, it is possible to discover many other customs and traditions nowadays still alive.
Five minutes far from the Museum of the Val Venosta it is possible to see the "Quairwaal" canal, with all its tools. This walk takes about 20 minutes and can be made every day, Monday excluded, from 10.00 to 12.00 and from 15.00 to 18.00, from Easter till 1 November. In winter reservation is compulsory.
