In Selva di Cadore was established in 1982 the Civic Museum of Val Fiorentina, with the fossil collection of Vittorino Cazzetta as the main exhibition. In 2010 the Museum was enlarged and radically renovated to give space to the many geological and archaeological discoveries of the scholar Cazzetta.
Following his untimely death in 1996, the Museum was dedicated to the self-taught scholar, becoming the “Vittorino Cazzetta” Museum.
What to see
The Vittorino Cazzetta Museum is a Paleontological, Archaeological and Historical Museum. The most important finds are represented by a large reproduction of the dolomite boulder of Mount Pelmetto with imprints of dinosaurs that once inhabited the Dolomite area and a Mesolithic burial, complete with funerary equipment, containing the "Mondeval Man" found in the location “Mondeval de Sora”.
These are two findings of extraordinary scientific importance, both for the knowledge of the Dolomites, and for the historical anthropological knowledge of life in the Alps.
The Museum
The Museum has a private parking and it's divided into four floors including a ticket office, a library, a cafeteria, a book-shop, a conference room and a cloakroom.
On the first floor there is the geological-paleontological and archaeological section, while on the second floor there is the protohistorical and historical section and the audiovisual room. The ground floor houses a large exhibition space used for temporary exhibitions and cultural events.

The Museum is open every Saturday and Sunday: 10am - 12:30am, 3pm - 6:30pm
