At Palafavera (1507 m), take the carriageway (564, 556) on the west side of the road which climbs up to the Pioda basin and the hut of the same name (currently only used as an emergency bivouac) (1815 m; 0.45 hours) near Forcella d'Alleghe. Here you can also reach, more quickly, with the Pioda chairlift that climbs from Palafavera to Col de la Traversa (1887 m).
Beyond the malga continues the military mule track (556) that leads to the Sonino al Coldai Hut (2132 m; 1.30 hours). Towards the west, path no. 556 (Alta via n 1) crosses Forcella Coldai and reaches the small lake of the same name (2143 m; 0.20 hours from the refuge).
Variant: starting from Casera Vescovà (1720 m), which can also be reached by car from the Passo Staulanza road (last hairpin bend before the pass), take path Cai 561 to Col di Baldi. After about 40 minutes you reach Pioda, crossing magnificent open and panoramic spaces (difference in altitude from Vescovà to Pioda 160 m).
