A demanding excursion of about 6 hours, starting and finishing at Passo Staulanza, which allows you to admire the beauty of Mount Pelmo: from the imposing southern walls, to the eastern slope with its large basin, the main feature of this mountain, and the gravelly gullies of the north-eastern slope up to the north-western wall.
One ascends the ancient Tríòl dei Cavai to then continue on the southern slope of the mountain, reaching, below the Fisura vertical, the wide pasture area of Le Mandre. We cross the area of I Lach, circumventing the great south-eastern crest of Pelmo at a singular rocky structure called Dambra (zoccolo) until we reach Campi di Rutorto. From here we continue on to the Venezia hut.
From the refuge, with views of Cadore and Ampezzo and the peaks of Antelao and Sorapiss, the most tiring section of the itinerary begins, the ascent to Forcella di Val d'Arcia. The route is steep and the ascent is facilitated by metal cables to overcome some challenging passes at the base of the lower Torrione di Forca Rossa. This is the Flaibani path.
When you reach the col, continue on the northern slope, leaving the Flaibani path, which descends directly to the Città di Fiume hut, to take an unnumbered path that cuts diagonally across the enormous detrital torrent at the foot of the north face of the Pelmo, thus returning in a short time to the Forcella Staulanza col.
