The San Candido - Lienz cycle path, also known as the ‘Pustertal cycle path’ or the ‘Drava cycle path’, is one of the most popular routes, covering a distance of around 44 km. A journey for families and cycling enthusiasts through pastures and verdant forests, touching on and exploring typical mountain villages. The route begins in Innichen and, after passing through several villages, ends in Lienz in Austria.
It is a relaxing ride on asphalted roads, an easy cycle path, which takes about 3 hours and is suitable for the whole family.
The start of the cycle path is at the Magistrate's Square in Innichen, and the route follows a mostly flat road with slight descents to Lienz, the capital of East Tyrol. Along the way, numerous intermediate stages are passed: Versciaco, Prato Drava, Weitlanbrunn, Sillian, Tassenbach, Abfaltersbach, Mittewald a.d. Drau and Thal.
To tackle the route with total peace of mind it is advisable to be well equipped with drinks and food, although there are several water fountains and rest areas along the route for refreshments. In addition, if you have any problems with your bike, you can use a free service point.
For the return journey, those who do not wish to return with their bicycles have the option of returning by train, with a special carriage in which to place the bike.
If you do not have your bike with you, you can rent it in Innichen and deliver it near the Lienz station for a small extra charge.
