Quality of life: Bolzano 2nd and Trento 5th

The annual ranking on the quality of life in the Italian provinces has been published, the result of a survey conducted by ItaliaOggi andLa Sapienza University of Rome, in cooperation with Cattolica Assicurazioni. The research analyses numerous parameters, including work, standard of living, safety, environment, education, leisure and tourism, also considering the effects of the pandemic. Milan is confirmed in first place, followed by Bolzano and Monza. Bologna and Trento complete the top five in the new edition of the report.

The ranking sees Belluno in 35th place, down 13 places compared to 2023. The categories ‘Business and Labour’, ‘Environment’ and ‘Education’ are stable; ‘Population’ is slightly up, ‘Income and Wealth’, ‘Social Security’ and ‘Health’ are slightly down.

Business and Labour

The section dedicated to the labour market and economy includes eight indicators, such as employment and unemployment rates, incidence of start-ups and innovative SMEs. Bolzano and Bologna maintain the first two places, followed by Verona, Trieste and Padua, while Trento is in seventh place. At the bottom of the ranking is Naples.

Environment

Environmental quality is assessed on two dimensions: negative impacts on the environment and positive measures adopted by local administrations. Monza and Brianza leads the ranking, followed by Padua, Reggio Emilia and Mantua. Trento drops to 20th place, while Catania closes the ranking.

Crimes and Security

The analysis of security shows relative stability. Enna takes first place, climbing nine positions compared to the past, followed by Frosinone, Benevento and Campobasso. Trento is 61st, while Rimini closes the list.

Social Security

In this category, which includes new parameters such as the inactivity rate between the ages of 25 and 34, Rovigo takes first place, followed by Cremona, Bolzano, Cuneo and Milan. Trento is 44th, while Taranto is last.

Education and Training

Education and human capital are analysed using six indicators, including education levels and participation in lifelong learning. Bologna leads the ranking, followed by Trento, Trieste and Milan, while Crotone is last.

Population

With new indicators such as life expectancy and the old age index, this category sees Bolzano in first place for the tenth year running, followed by Trento, Monza and Brianza, Milan and Brescia. South Sardinia closes the list.

Health System

Isernia maintains the top spot, followed by Terni, Ancona, Pavia and Genoa. Despite health excellence in some cities, Trento ranks 95th, while Vibo Valentia is last.

Tourism

This year the category also includes entertainment and culture. Bolzano takes first place, followed by Rimini, Trieste, Rome and Verona. Trento is 14th, while Enna closes the ranking.

Income and Wealth

Milan continues to dominate this category, followed by Bologna, Modena, Biella and Parma. Trento ranks 18th, while Crotone remains last for the fifth consecutive year.
