An educational tour dedicated to the airlines kicked off on 5 February, with the aim of introducing them to some of the most iconic destinations in the Dolomites. The initiative was created in view of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, an event that will turn the spotlight on an area unique in the world for its natural beauty and the quality of its tourist offer.
The project is being organised by Trentino Marketing and Dolomiti Bellunesi DMO, two organisations that respectively deal with the promotion of tourism in Trentino and the province of Belluno, in collaboration with the SAVE Group, manager of the North East Airport Hub. The objective is to accompany representatives of the airlines operating at the airports of Venice and Verona on an itinerary that will cross Val di Fiemme, Val di Fassa with the Passo San Pellegrino ski area, and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
The tour will explore not only the tourist and sports infrastructure, but also the distinctive elements of the Dolomites' winter offer. In addition to skiing and snow activities, space will also be given to gastronomic and cultural excellences, to offer a complete overview of the experience that travellers can enjoy in this area.
One of the key aspects of the initiative is the collaboration between the tourism and aviation sectors. The airlines involved cover a wide network of international connections, from direct flights to the main intercontinental hubs to routes connecting the area with North America and the Middle East. The meeting with industry representatives will therefore be an opportunity to enhance the accessibility of the Dolomites and to promote a growth strategy for air connections in the winter period.
A further important element is the possibility of integrating a stay in the mountains with a visit to the area's cities of art, thanks to the short distances between airports, urban centres and tourist resorts. In fact, the initiative aims to convey to the airlines the versatility of the tourist offer, which makes it possible to combine nature, sport and culture experiences in a single holiday.
According to Camillo Bozzolo, Director of Aviation Development of the SAVE Group, this initiative represents a strategic opportunity: ‘Making the territory better known to airlines means enhancing the role of airports as gateways to quality international tourism. The synergy between the airport sector and tourist destinations is fundamental to improve connectivity and encourage new connections, especially in the winter season.’
Maurizio Rossini, CEO of Trentino Marketing: ‘This initiative allows us to let important airlines from all over the world know about the proposals that Trentino resorts offer 365 days a year. The objective is to make them more and more accessible, consolidating the presence of Trentino on international markets starting from the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, a really important appointment in this sense’.
Emanuela de Zanna, President of the Cda Fondazione Dolomiti Bellunesi ‘This activity is strategic for our territory from two points of view: to show the destination and the offer present all year round and to connect our valleys with the most important and strategic markets. This is because the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will bring unprecedented visibility to the Belluno Dolomites, but this must be accompanied by a real offer of accessibility of the territory in all four seasons’.
The meeting between tourism operators and airlines is therefore an important step to consolidate the position of the Dolomites as a reference destination for travellers from all over the world. The hope is that this initiative can translate into new development opportunities and a strengthening of connections between the area and international markets.
