Cavalese, summer and winter sports: Nordic walking and Marcialonga
Cavalese represents the historical, administrative and cultural heart of Val di Fiemme: here in fact you find the premises of the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme.
Cavalese is also a favourite destination attracting visitors with its ski runs, with the Marcialonga ski competition and with the many activities you can practice in summer. Culture and traditions live in the ancient buildings, in the mills and in the events. Today Cavalese is a renowned ski resort appreciated for its position near the Alpe Cermis ski area, perfect for both beginners and experts, but also for kids that can have fun in Cermislandia (open also in summer), a playground where they will meet the magical inhabitants of the mountains. On the valley floors there are several cross-country skiing trails along the route of the Marcialonga that ends here in Cavalese, and on the Lavazè Pass. You can also practice snowshoeing and ice skating.
In summer Cavalese is appreciated for its landscapes, the quietness and the many activities one can practice: walks in the town center, in the large park of the Parish among the ancient lime trees, or at high altitudes to admire the valley and the mountains, horseback rides and mountain bike tours. You can continue your training in the gyms, in the swimming pools and in the fiemme Vitality Park for Nordic walking. In summer you can take part to the Marcialonga Running and to the Marcialonga Cycling. The village lies on a wide sunny plain where the valley widens, on the banks of the Gambis stream. It is an ancient urban center dating back to the Bronze Age, but it started growing only in the XII century, when on the river banks mills, sawmills and copper factories were built.
Starting from the year One Hundred the village was under the rule of the prince-bishops of Trento, and in this period the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme was established, today housed in the old Palazzo dei vescovi. Culture and traditions are evident in the old buildings, in the churches and in the events, often connected to local traditions, like the Witch Trials or the Desmontegada, and to music. Worth a visit are the Center of Contemporary Art and the Historical Museum and Art Gallery of the Magnifica Comunità.
