Castel Telvana, immersed in the woods of Borgo Valsugana, is one of the most spectacular turreted complexes in Trentino. An important strategic point during Roman times, it was first burnt down and then transformed into a private baronial residence.
Castel Telvana develops all around the square 26-metre high lookout tower.
The oldest part of Castel Telvana dates back to the 13th century and from the strategic position on which it was built, it played an important control role on the Roman road Claudia Augusta Altinate.
Some documents say that the castle was destroyed by the Franks in 590, others mention episodes from the late Middle Ages. It was burnt down in 1665 and, after being renovated, became a baronial residence.
Today the castle is a private residence and can therefore only be admired from the outside.
The fortress can be reached via the Sentiero dei castelli (Castles Trail), which leads from the centre of Borgo Valsugana, past the Chiesa dei Fra, to Castel Telvana. The walk is suitable for everyone and can be covered in 3/4 hours.
