Mayenburg Castle is located between Foiana and Tesimo, near Lana and Merano. The beautiful manor, which stands on the Monte di Mezzo, belongs to a family from Merano and cannot be visited inside. Its massive structure is distinguished above all by its imposing tower and walls.
Mayenburg Castle is said to date back to the 11th century, when the tower was built. All around the fortress and some residential areas is the crenellated wall. Built for strategic reasons by the Mayenburg family, who died out in 1358, the castle passed from owner to owner until 1660, when the Brandis family settled there for a long time.
In 1814 the castle was bought by a farmer and later by a doctor from Merano - the current owner - who renovated it.
