Juval Castle rises on a steep rocky spur, was built in 1278 by Hugo von Montalban in a strategic position in the middle of Venosta, Passiria and Senales Valleys. It lies at the beginning of the latest, in a high position, very strategic in case of defence.
Behind it there are the Alpine peaks, many of them over 3000 m. Besides it is a wonderful castle, it ought its name to the fact that its owner is Reinhold Messner. Well-known is the room of the thousand joys, so called for the breathtaking scenery you can enjoy from its windows.
Since 1983, the castle is the residence of Reinhold Messner who, after a restoration, put in it artistic Tibetan collections, a mask collection from the 5 continents, a photo gallery dedicated to the mountains and a botanic trail. The great mountaineer and writer opens his castle to the public in the good season and the occasion of exhibitions.
