The spectacular Castel Coldrano rises in the homonymous village of Coldrano, near Laces, in Val Venosta, in a quiet and sunny position, among vineyards and orchards. Castel Coldrano is considered one of the main Renaissance monuments of South Tyrol and today is the setting for conventions, exhibitions and other interesting events.
The origins of Castel Coldrano date back to the Middle Ages; on top of a pre-existing Romanesque structure the residential nucleus of the Counts Hendl, who already had in their possession other manors of the Tyrol: Castelbello, Castel Juval, Castel Mareccio, was built in 1495.
In 1862 the Hendl family sold the castle to the municipality, which decided to use it as a school and shelter for the inhabitants of the area.
Many of the constituent elements of the building (the location, the wall, the cylindrical towers at the corners, etc.) give the impression that Castel Coldrano is more a noble residence than a massive defensive building. The entrance door, decorated with Lasa marble worked with the diamond, and the courtyard, characterized by a splendid arcade with arches and columns, accentuate even more this image of harmonious residential architecture. A remarkable object is also kept in the cellars area: an ancient wine press dating back to the 18th century.
Today Castel Coldrano, after the careful restoration work that has interested it, makes available its internal rooms, some of which are equipped with advanced technologies, to host numerous cultural and musical events, as well as local and international training activities.
Castel Coldrano can only be visited with a tourist guide.
