The castle was founded in the XVI century by an Italian master-builder near the homonymous hamlet of Casteldarne. Casteldarne can boast the fact of being one of the few castle still completely furnished.
Another characteristic of this castle is the arcaded courtyard in the Renaissance style, considered one of the most beautiful in South Tyrol.
The audience room of the Prince-Bishop, dated 1730-1737, is worth a visit. The visits are not allowed.
The castle is not open to the public.
