Saint Leonhard horse parade

Event date 06-11-2025

The Cavalcade of St Leonhard is a historical horseback procession that has been held for centuries in old Bavaria, western Austria and South Tyrol, including Alta Badia. This solemn event is dedicated to St Leonhard of Limoges, protector of prisoners, farmers and their livestock, especially horses.

In Alta Badia, tradition and local costumes play a central role in the celebration. The procession features figures in Ladin dress, finely decorated carriages and splendidly decorated Haflinger and Noriker horses. At the end of the procession, the horses and their breeders receive a blessing.

The event is enhanced by an authentic atmosphere with Ladin specialities such as ‘turtres’ and ‘furtaies’, as well as a charity market involving visitors and the local community.
